This quilt was made for an over sized king bed. It measures 110" x 125" totally scrapp, even has some old kitchen curtain fabric in this one. The only pic I have of it after it was quilted is one of it folded up. But I do have a pic of the full top and one of the top folded in half. This quilt no longer resides with me. It was sent to someone who loves it dearly. It was hard for me to part with. I going to enter this into the 2014 Bloggers Quilt festival under the large quilt catagory. I plan to make another one of these soon.
This was my first MQ and my first scalloped border. I decided to go with all scrappy, since I didn't have the yardage to meet the fabric requirements.I'm entering this into Amy's 2014 Bloggers Quilt Festival. Go have a look at all the beautiful quilts and be inspired by the creativity of other quilters. This was one quilt I haven't yet been able to part with because all the
time I put into making it. I love the way it turned out and am very
proud of it. It won Viewers Choice on the FB group that hosted the MQ,
it also won a blue ribbon at our county fair. It is presently on the bed
in our guest room, with a red bed skirt which sets it off nicely.
I wanted to enter this simple but modern quilt I made my daughter into Amy's Blooger Quilt featival. I haven't blogged in quite some time and then it was just here and there. I may just have a few new post because I have a couple new quilts I would like to enter. This quilt was made using fabric my daughter bought and brought to me and asked if I would make her a quilt from them. Only problem was, there wasn't near enough yarage to do it. So I used as much of the fabric she had brought me and finished the rest off with a big white background. Surprisingly it turned out beautifully. It may have not been quite as nice with out the white, so not enough was a good thing.

I love everything about my new purse. I drew me up a pattern similar to one I had seen only I made it to suit my needs and I just love it. I've got plans to make a couple more. Hope to get to those soon. I've been pretty busy lately sewing for others so I try to squeeze in time to work on some of my projects. I just about have my other MQ top together. I've also been putting together blocks a friend of mine's great grandmother had pieced and was not able to finish they are simply amazing and Can't wait to share those beauties with you. Also, here's a link for my card holder key chain tutorial which would be great to make them match the purse.
Super excited about my next few projects. The baby quilt I'm working on is for my sisters new grand daughter. I had already planned to make her one but my sister wanted to commission one from me and asked for bright colors and modern fabrics and I just happen to have enough 4 patches from an earlier quilt I'll use for one side and found a nice alphabet panel and fabric that will look great for the other side. Loving the Spring time colors. I'll just have to make her all the cutsie baby girl stuff. I already started a pinterest board for inspiration. I love sewing for babies.
I have also ordered and received the Made by Rae Washi dress pattern. My sweet husband told me to order all the fabric I needed to make the dress, top, PJ pants and 2 new bags I had been talking about making for Valentines day. He knows me well, I 'll take fabric over fresh flowers any day :) What are you most excited about making right now?
This is my first ever mystery quilt and I loved making it so much I've started another one. I've have started and finished many things during the cold weather we've had but I can honestly say the weather hasn't bothered me because I do get to stay inside and look at the beauty of it rather then go out and feel it's bite. I feel very thankful for that. My husband is very supportive of my love for sewing, and doesn't mind that I spend so much time in my woman cave. Here's what I have accomplished in the last few weeks.
1. I got the borders on my MQ. I added the surrounding row of diamonds, a red pin strip and a big wide scalloped edge. I thought that with the border fabric not having much going on that the scallops would be nice and I'm glad I added them. I was challenging for me, but I'm glad I gave them a try. I learned that I love scallops and that I will not be making them so deep any more. Try to stitch those tight curves was a well, no so simple and took a very long time. Longer then hand stitching the binding down. But It's done!!!
2. I got another UFO quilted and bound. Happy to have another project done and out of the way. I pieced this a few years ago to use up some of the scraps I had. It is very beautiful on our big white bed. I'm sure it won't be here long, Someone will see it and love it and it will be gone. It makes my heart happy knowing they go to those who will love and cherish them.
3. This is just a simple drawstring bag I made at the request of a dear friend. She asked for a gym bag with a drawstring and had found one online she liked but asked me if I could make her one like it. I put 4 pockets on the inside and she just loves it.

4. I have step one done on my other MQ and have made 2 pillow cases to match the pink and white stripe quilt I had made. Today, I'm working on a throw pillow to go with the pillow slips and quilt.

Happy sewing!!!
A few new finishes for me. A couple pillow cover for my nieces. Made from their Big sister, baby sister T-shirts. The surrounding squares were made with scraps from their baby clothes. I also made them each a bed size quilt from their baby clothes. I deconstructed the clothing and made the polka dots out of them. And a quilt for my daughter.
So I
choose my favorite color, green. I have been using these challenges to
complete projects that have been on my to-do list. I had a request for a
make-up bag with several pockets. So I thought this would be a great
opportunity to do this for my project. I knew once I got thinking about
it, I was gonna have a problem putting the separator piece in with the
boxed corners so the bag would be roomy and boy was I right. I had laid
in bed at night thinking of how I would pull that one off and still have
the bag fully lined with boxed corners and no seams. Knowing that boxing the corners would not only raise the bottom of the bag but also shorten
the width on the bottom. I knew the bottom of the piece couldn't
be stitch across the bottom until the corners were boxed. Because I
would have to wait until the bottom of the bag was raised up to meet the
middle piece. Hope that makes sense.
So I had marked and cut my corners with a 1 3/4' square and placed my
piece where it was about 1/4" below that line for when I stitched the
bottom. Now, I've boxed corners before but never before sewing the
bottom of the bag closed. That was tricky but went pretty well. I
thought I had it all figured out, how I would get that in and still
leave an opening for the turning. All was going well and then sure
enough it happened. That's when I realized my piece that was to separate
the bag was still too
wide. I had figured for that but I forgot to double it for
both corners. I had to rip it all out and do some trimming, another 3"
off for the other side. I finally finagled that thing in there some
how. I don't give up easily. If I do decide to make another one I have a
new plan of execution. It wouldn't have been a problem but the boxed
corners and that piece just didn't mix for me, because I just couldn't
wrap my brain around it. I probably should have gooled it and could have
found many ways of doing it. But it got done and that all that matters
now.I made my first ever welted pocket (single bound and loved it). I put
it on the outside of the bag for her lipstick, because that's something
that gets used more often through out the day. I liked it so much, I
decided I wanted to do another one, only with out any flap on the
inside. Making welted pockets are my new favorite thing :) Then I did
the simplest of pockets on the other side because I could make 2 pockets
in one by stitching down the middle of one long pocket. Now I have 6
separate areas for make-up. I think that should be enough since she
doesn't really wear that much make-up. I did make one major mistake, at
least it's major for me and no one else would probably even notice if I
didn't mention it. But, I really does bother me so I asked several
people if they could see anything wrong with the back of the bag. Other
the the pencil lines I drew on it to put the pocket in. I write on my
stuff with pencil all the time. That didn't bother me because I always
run my things through the wash any how so that will come right out. This
mistake I'm afraid won't wash out. They never did spot the problem even
after I had told them where it was. And to tell the truth it doesn't
really show except in the pics. Why do pics always show you every little
thing, even the smallest of threads you didn't clip close enough?? I
know that others that sew and quilt will definitely notice that I put my
pocket in on the wrong end of the back exterior fabric, causing the
children on the toile to be standing on their heads. Yep, I was careful
to cut my pieces all the right way then totally blew it when I put that
pocket in. I think we've all done this at one time or another when
working with directional fabric. I was disappointed but, I have found,
that when you make something for someone they are so pleased to get it
they never even notice or care about those things. They are usually just
thrilled that you thought of them. Hey, I can say I'm happy with the
way the zipper turned out. I've never done one in that method. I have
always had both ends enclosed in the seams, but I wanted the bag to have
a big mouth and it does. Over all I am very pleased with the way it
turned out. I always learn from ever thing I try that's new to me,
besides, that and the smile it puts on someone face make it all worth
the while. Since we have to give our project a name mines is called My
Favorite Color Big Mouthed Make-up Bag, LOL!!

Last night I got my fabrics pressed and some of the pieces cut. I'll have to cut the rest as I go along because I'm not following a pattern. So, I'll just figure as I go. But I did get the front panel quilted and the monogrammed fused and stitched in place. Now, I working on the ric-rac trim, which seems to be giving me a bit of a fit. My first thought was to tuck it under but I didn't like the way it raised the edges of the white strip. Had I have known that, I would have placed a piece of pellon or interfacing behind the white and raised it forward and that would have solved that issue but since I already had it fused and stitched down, there was no going back. Next I went to stitch the ric-rac in place and seen very quickly that it was shifting on me and I wasn't happy with the way it was looking. So I ripped that out. My second thought was to used the ole glue stick trick but couldn't find mine anywhere. Must be one of the many things I left in Ga. I really need to make another trip down to get the rest of my things but I just keep putting that off. I prefer to travel when the weather is more predictable. That left me with only one other option that I could think of. That would be to pin it. It's terribly tiny and difficult to do but I managed to get it held tight. I just hope that when I remove the pins as I sew it doesn't shift under the foot. I don't sew over pins but might if I have too. If anyone can tell me a better way, please do. I tried other presser feet that had grooves on the underside to see if that might help but I didn't have much luck with that either. I'm thinking if all else fails I might try under wonder on it. Any suggestion are welcome. I'm also thing I might need to do a zig zag around the monogram, provided that the I can find a thread here in this small town that matches the green!

I was impatiently waiting and then it was written. This weeks challenge is "My favorite color". Ha, I had to think about that one. I have so many favorite colors. Can we just say I love color, all colors. But I do have a few favorites, so I had to narrow it down and think about what my favorite color really is. I know I love purple, but I really like the deep rich purples, not all purples. Then there is red, who doesn't love red. I know I do, especially mixed with other color. But there is a catch here, we can use only one other color in our project and that is white! So that made it easier for me because there is only one color that I have always loved no matter the shade, hue, tone, or what it is mixed with. And looking at my stash it easy to see it's GREEN for me. I love every possible shade of green there is. I almost went with a piece I've had for a long time that has a yellow under tone, one of my favorites but I have absolutely nothing that goes with it that doesn't have other colors in it and white just wouldn't do.I decided to go with ones that are fun and fresh and remind me of Spring.

For those of you who don't know, I have this love affair with scrappy quilts and the more I make, the more I love them. It doesn't matter to me if they are darks, brights, muted, or even monochromatic in color, seems they are always my favorites. There's really not much thinking involved in choosing the fabrics, just pick the ones that make you feel good. I probably have more ugly fabrics in my stash then most people, not because they are my favorite but because I got them at a great price, more then likely, but they work. If they are really really ugly I just use smaller pieces and the ugly goes away. I have always had a hard time paying full price for fabric. Especially now that the price has risen so much. I mean 11-15$ a yrd. are you kidding me, and you though gas was high. Not saying I never have paid full price but it's rare, real rare. I have to really really love it. Like when I fell in love with Tula Pinks Flutterby, yes I paid full price and bought the whole bundle, but I found it hard to even cut up. I do most of my fabric shopping online. I buy good quality quilting fabric, but I almost always shop the sale section. I have also bought a few of the flat fold bundles mainly because they are great stash builders at a good price but also I like the surprise of seeing what I'll get and many times I have received fabrics I would not have picked by looking at them on a computer screen but turned out to be my favorites and then there's the ones that make you say "what ever will I do with this! So far it's not only working for me, it also challenges me. Which isn't a bad thing. I think it is helping me get better at putting different fabrics together, while keeping my obsession of making quilt more affordable. Here's what I'm currently working on, between quilting other tops and binding the one I just finished. It's gonna be a simple 4 patch but simple is just as pretty too.
I have to say it's been a great 2 years and lots of life changes. I moved back to my hometown of Madisonville Ky. I also married my childhood sweetheart. I'm happier then I've ever been. But I really don't want to talk about me. I had much rather talk quilting and sewing. So I think it would be much easier for me if I just share pics of some of the thing I managed to get done here and there along the way. Some are good, some are bad and some I love.

This is a quilt I was commissioned to do. It is 125"x110" Sew big I couldn't get it all in the pic without having to move
furniture. So I opted to just fold it in half and get a pic. but that
was fine since the other half looks the same as this half.

Coasters I seen on Pinterest and liked so much I made us some.
I do have some more things to share. I'll have to drag the laptop out for those pics. I also have another finished quilt and 2 tops finished up to share but I'll have to get pics of those before they head out to their new homes. I have already started the next 4 or 5 quilts in my head and even have fabrics picked out for them. I almost forgot I have made many bags/ pouches to share as well. I'll have to break out my camera tomorrow. I wish I was a better picture taker. Seems all my pics are either blurry or the color is off. I'm not sure how to set the thing and have probably done something to the settings because I can remember at one time it took pretty good pics. Someone suggested I clean the lens, so I'll be sure to do that first too.
And then I finally finished this queen size top that I had made about a year and a half ago. I lost this top more then once during my moves and just about everything that could possibly delay it being finished happened but in the end, we were all happy with how it turned out. The piecing and top itself turned out great but my quilting on this was not some of my best work. It was easy to for me to see I hadn't quilted in awhile but no one else seem to see what I seen. That's the wonderful part about making quilts for others they love them no matter what and never pick every little stitch apart like I do on my own work. But I've always felt done is better then perfect, so I'm very happy with how it turned out.
Donnahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13167060727047564199noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4377659922415386783.post-83191993929612934642010-08-20T14:58:00.000-07:002010-08-21T21:39:15.076-07:00Pickles

Donnahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13167060727047564199noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4377659922415386783.post-32495572106368348022010-08-18T07:57:00.000-07:002010-08-21T21:39:55.993-07:00UpdatesI have neglected my blog for so long. I know it won't be long before I can have all my sewing stuff out again, but I am missing my quilting sew bad. I know one thing for sure once I do get to drag all my clutter out again, I will be quilting up a storm. You can bet there will be threads a flying.Donnahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13167060727047564199noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4377659922415386783.post-3522510432596913422010-04-10T16:41:00.000-07:002010-04-10T16:45:41.811-07:00You know what I love about bloggingWhen you get to missing your family and loved ones, you can go back to the beginning of your blog and relive all of the wonderful times you spend with them. At least the ones you wrote about. I didn't make it all the way through, because I'm about to cry now. I do miss them.Donnahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13167060727047564199noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4377659922415386783.post-24807932387930695472009-12-09T19:17:00.000-08:002009-12-09T20:41:23.419-08:00All I want for Christmas giftsFirst I have to say shame on me, yes I should have been on here at least a week ago and posted about the wonderful surprise I received from Bea ( Holee) in the mail. I have been extremely busy but that no excuse because I know it only takes a few minutes to say thank you and share the kindness and thoughtfulness of others. I also know that Holee has been just as busy and still found time to do this. I came in one night from doing some shopping. Which I didn't enjoy doing alone. So, like I always do I try to carry everything in one trip and barely made it up all those steps to the door. When I went to set the stuff down so I'd have a hand to open the door I seen 2 big boxes sitting there, I instantly looked to see where they came from and they were from Bea. My boring night of shopping suddenly got better and I was doing a little dance. I tried to pick up one of the boxes and it was so heavy I knew it was gonna take more then one trip to get everything the house this time, but it didn't matter I was too excited to see what was in those boxes. OMG! wait til you hear all the things she sent me. I know she put a lot of time and thought into each one of these gifts and she took the time to wrap and make labels for each one. I just can not thank her enough. I hope she knows how much she has lifted my spirit this holiday season.
First thing I want to show you is the absolute adorable sewing machine cover she made me. She must have spent hours working on this. Oh if you could just feel it, it feels so good. I love him so much. Just look at how much personality he has. Garfield is my new most favorite thing in my sewing room. And when I sewing and have to take him off the machine I put him over the back of my chair. He really has livened things up around here.
She also sent me machine needles, pins, ribbon, rick rack, buttons, zippers, two multi packs of guttermans thread in some yummy colors, 3 patterns( I have one picked out from each of those I'll be making very soon),thread conditioner, and some strapping to make handles or belts out of. Look at that stocking, isn't that the cutest thing!! That jingle bell has already found it's place hanging right above my sewing table. All all those beautiful fabrics are going to work perfect with the patterns, plus some...The kids are going to love the fun straws and lollipops. She also sent me a cute snowman coffee cup full of Chocolaty candy that DGS comes back and gets a few pieces of everyday. Now that I look at this pic I realize you can't really see how pretty all those fabrics are,I just love them. She got me a great srapppy quilt book. I have a pattern picked out already. I do love fig newtons and she must have read that some where on the quilting board and remembered. Oh and the three patterns are just perfect. I'll be making one of those CQ bags very soon!! She sent me several different fabric collections more then enough to make any one of the patterns she sent, plus some. These will keep be busy for a long time and you will be seeing many projects made with this in the new year. That yellow roll is golden thimbles quilting paper. I think I'm gonna be hooked on this stuff once I get a chance to give it a try. You know I have a fear of trying to quilt designs. This will let me trace out any design, it sticks to my quilt and then just tears away. Now this should get me over the my hump of straight lines and stipple. I'll make sure and post pics of how that goes when I give it a try. She sent me a magnetic pin holder and I just don't know how I ever lived without one of these. If you don't have one it's a must!!
Last but definitely not least is a wishing pearl necklace. Now, first thing I did was read the card she sent and it say that maybe me and my DGD would enjoy the oyster together. Now, I thought I was reading it work, because I knew I wasn't going to get Katebug to try an oyster so I asked my daughter was I reading it right. Well, sure enough it was a oyster and me and Katebug did enjoy it. It was a wishing pearl and it was still in side the mollusk shell and we had so much fun. We both made a wish and then opened the mollusk and found our pearl inside the oyster. Once we seen what color we got we knew our white pearl was for wisdom. We took the pearl and put it inside the necklace which was just beautiful. Now, I just knew Katebug was gonna want to keep the necklace but she said nanny can we give this to mommy for Christmas. I thought that was a wonderful idea. I wish I had captured how proud she was when she carried her moms present to put it under the tree. Bea, thank you so so much. I'm sure that will be one of those special memories that Katelyn will always remember about her childhood. It's moments like those that last a lifetime.
Donnahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13167060727047564199noreply@blogger.com4
